ADL Peer Training at Spady Elementary Montessori school - by Sydney Altschul and Joseph Zeuner

On Monday May 11th, No Place for Hate Peer Trainers Joseph Zeuner and Sydney Altschul, along with their club advisor, Ms. Amanda Brooke, conducted a peer training with a fourth grade class at SD Spady Elementary Montessori school in Delray Beach.  Students from Space of Mind Schoolhouse also conducted trainings in other classes.  The goal of the program was to teach students "How To Be an Ally" and how to put an end to bullying.  Through interactive activities the class full of 18 eager students learned important strategies for being an ally.

Following the training we, along with all the Spady 4th graders, had the privilege of listening to the inspirational words
of Hector Picard. Hector is a husband, dad, realtor, motivational speaker,
Ironman
triathlete,
and a double arm amputee. He left us with the message that you should not let your disabilities define who you are and anything is possible.

The No Place for Hate program is in its third year at DKJA
, we were recently honored to be recognized as a No Place for Hate school for the second consecutive year.
Trainings like the one held at Spady have been held in DKJA's 4th, 5th, and 7th grades this year. The program is led by the Claire and Emanuel G. Rosenblatt High School at DKJA's No Place for Hate/ADL Club. Next year, we are proud to invite all interested 9-12 grade high school students to participate in a three day training to become Certified ADL Peer Trainers.  In addition, next year we will plan to conduct more trainings in our middle and lower school classes.

Please take a moment to like the DKJA No Place for Hate/ADL club on Facebook.  For every "Like," one dollar is donated to the ADL Education program.  With over four hundred and fifty likes, it serves as a way to teach our local and international community the importance of ADL and the values it instills.  It allows us to post strategies about how to be an ally and how to combat bullying both in and out of school.

For more information about the program please email Ms. Amanda Brooke, Club Advisor.
