Pipetts
When presented with a challenge and a chance to “beat” other groups to the answer, the AP Chemistry students worked diligently with their partners to “win.” The students were given 5 unknown pipetts and presented with the problem to determine what substance was contained inside. (They were aware of what the 5 substances were). The students utilized their knowledge of chemical reactions, precipitation reactions in specific, to research, design, and then implement their procedure. The “winners” were all the students since each group was able to determine the contents and justify their reasons for the selection.
